We have tried adrenaline weekends and realxing weekends, all are great but i'm looking for a weekend of total isolation to see how we cope.Is there anywhere in UK I can take the family for a weekend of total isolation ?
You will have to head to the Scottish highlands or the Welsh mountains and rent a cottage there. Then again, it is possible that you will bump into the resident farmer :)Is there anywhere in UK I can take the family for a weekend of total isolation ?
I once rented a cottage on Loch Arkaig. It was called Invermailie Cottage and it belonged to Cameron of Locheil. The only way in was by landrover, or boat which went with the cottage. The nearest big town was Fort William. The only person I saw was a fisherman who gave me some trout that he had caught. I don't know whether the cottage is for rent any more as this was a few years ago, but for complete isolation you couldn't beat it. Obviously Loch Arkaig is still there, so there must be other cottages to rent - its a big loch!
Hi there.
You are going to have to hit the Scottish Highlands I think -
some of the islands you can get a private ferry to are completely abandoned.
Good luck, Steve.
AHHHH!!!!!! total isolation!!!!!!
no where in the uk, i agree with one poster about the lake distric though. Maybe even a bed and breakfast somewhere out in the sticks, or a village like that?
just a suggestion but thats all i think there really is.
if your going to england the yorkshire dales are nice, or south wales
I would try one of the Scottish islands......I don't know much about them, but they're probably a good bet for isolation, and they are beautiful. According to a friend of mine who's worked up there, if you do bump into people, they are invariably kind.
go to cornwall
Isle Of Wight is nice.Check out www.isleofwightchalet.co.uk
Why not book a cottage in Wales, its a beautiful place and you'll get the best of both worlds. Isolation, little villages, the great outdoors.
When i was young my whole family stayed in a cottage in wales for the week, we were completely alone that is except for the horses outside the window.
In the UK the only really remote areas left are in the Scottish Highlands and islands and a few areas in the Yorkshire/Lancashire Pennines. There may also be a little bit of Wales worth looking at, but due to the proximity to major cities like Wolverhampton %26amp; Birmingham there are bound to be walkers around.
For your purposes forget areas like the lakes, Cornwall etc. - more crowed than a city in summer (they are nice though).
I reckon your best bet is to rent a croft on one of the lesser frequented Scottish Islands near Rhum (west coast) or in the Orkneys. In both cases it is a long way to go for a weekend though.
Yeah, West into North Wales you'd find some proper out of the way cottages, try I think its www.walescottages.co.uk if not it is very similar domain.
Try the Mourne mountains in Newcastle Northern Ireland Tullymore Forrest on the outskirts of Newcastle and head for the cascades it is great and there is a nice spot for a tent.It is very quiet and out of the way.
Pay for the grandparents to go away for the weekend and stay at their place.
the lake district is always quiet and beautiful
