What does the basketball term, isolation mean?

When a team is isolationg or there is an isolation what is happening? What does isolation mean? What does the basketball term, isolation mean?
Isolation is where a team spreads the players out wide...and usually the guard just holds the ball..Most times teams are doing this when they have the lead and try to take time off the clock without getting the ball stolen and suchWhat does the basketball term, isolation mean?
4 players on the team spread out while the fifth player(usually a guard) either try's to burn clock or go 1 on 1 with the defender
A team runs isolation to give a good ballhandler the opportunity to start a 1 on 1 play. The offensive squad without the ball drags the defense to the corners, in an attempt to clear the driving lane. As soon as the ballhandler makes a move past his defender, the offense returns inside for the rebound.

This play has to be executed with caution because an obvious attempt is simple for the defense to read.
Isolation is a play set in which the player that has the ball goes one on one with his/her defender. Also the other four players on the team spread out on the floor to create an area in which the player (now in the ';iso'; position) has room to operate.
isolation means when you spread your players out to get a 1 on 1
isolation is when a team trys to isolate someone on their team who they think can score on their opponent who they are matched up with in a man to man. this may be because he/she has a height, speed or skill advantage over his/her opponent. what usually happens is the players spread out so the help defenders can't help the guy guarding the ball out. however, each team does this differently. if you are playing and someone calls isolation or ';iso';, which is short for isolation, just go far away from the guy with the ball if you are confused or don't know what to do.
