What is an imagry/symbol that represents isolation/alienation?

I have to draw a cover of a man stuck in his childhood so he's isolated from world.

I was going to draw two elevators one higher than the other to show that he is stuck in one spot and the other one where people are actually moving up, growing up. But elevators are really hard to draw can anyone think of something similar to elevators? What is an imagry/symbol that represents isolation/alienation?
He could be the only person left at a train station while the train disappears into the distance. You could use a bus stop too but trains are cooler. :)

He could be standing alone at the airport, watching a plane take off.

He could be on a treadmill watching people run the track outside his window.

I think that's all I have for now.What is an imagry/symbol that represents isolation/alienation?
The phrase ';out on an island'; is often used to describe a person who has been isolated by the majority. Perhaps drawing someone kneeling or laying alone on an island would be suitable.

Also, I believe that a cardboard box has come to represent a person's individual detachment from the rest of society, in that the person inside the box is isolated from the world at large which is outside the box. Perhaps a person peeking outside through a hole in a box located at a busy place (market, workplace, airport, etc) would convey this.
you can draw a man in a fetus postion and around him was different pictures of his childhood memories. the background should be black or deep purple so the man in the center stands out.
Reflection in the mirror.
