I've done the majority of this essay question. I wouldn't mind hearing other peoples opinions to this question. Any idea will do.
ThanksHow does Steinbeck present loneliness and isolation in Of Mice and Men. Refer to the characters in the book?
-the name of the town is Solidad (or something along those lines...i did this for GCSE so a couple of years ago!) which means lonliness.
-the other men are surprised to learn that George and Lenny travel together: all the other travellers travel alone.
-the clearing is isolated but you can see from the opening scene where steinbeck comments on the smoothness of the tree branch because so many people have sat there before its like a cycle, all this has happened before and nothing is new. Thats quite lonely and isolated.
-Curly's wife. She's a good one because the first thing you can say is shes the only woman in the story and she isnt even given a name. She tells Lennie how lonely she is later, just before he kills her since Curly is a **** lol. She goes around flirting with the other men and causing a name for herself not necessarily because shes that kinda person but because shes so lonely and has NO ONE else...
-Lennie. He's so innocent and naive, hes like a child and so is pretty left out in terms of conversation.
-The old man who has the dog. Thats why the dog scene is so sad. That was his only companion...
-Cards. The game ';solitaire'; is mentioned a few times in the book.
mmm hope that helps!!
xHow does Steinbeck present loneliness and isolation in Of Mice and Men. Refer to the characters in the book?
he shows how isolated are the 2 men in the world and how they have little help to back them when things go wrong...
Ive done an essay on this book, although the question was different.it was: discuss the relationship between Lennie and George.
hope it helps...
