Is there a difference between being held in isolation and solitary confinement?

What are the differences if so.Is there a difference between being held in isolation and solitary confinement?
Isolation, just means you are separated from other prisoners physically.

IE: you are in a cell by yourself, but you can still see and talk to other inmates.

Solitary, means you are separated from other inmates in all ways.

IE: a cell without bars, where you have no contact with other inmates. Is there a difference between being held in isolation and solitary confinement?
Well, for me, isolation is more like protecting somebody from harm, like an ill person who has low immunity, or protecting the public from a person who can give harm, like an patient who has contagious disease.

Solitary confinement sounds more like a form of punishment.

You can isolate somebody, like putting somebody in a room or making him wear a mask/protective clothing, or even just separating somebody from a crowd in a parking area, like putting the person on one side, and the rest on the other side.

The word confinement alone would denote something like putting somebody in a room or a place where he cant go anywhere else, just there, inside, whereas isolation is just separating a person from everybody else, but still do or go somewhere.

I hope I was able to explain myself clearly. I have my thoughts and ideas, just the way of expressing it, i guess...
