How big does an isolation tank need to be for hermit crabs?

I want a hermit crab really bad and I know all of the basics but I don't know how big an isolation tank needs to be for a hermit crab. How big does an isolation tank need to be for hermit crabs?
a small 5 or ten gallon is fine. If you need something in a hurry the smaller kritter keepers are okay for temporary housing ( Ex. mite treatment) but they are a pain to heat and keep humid for moults and housing. How big does an isolation tank need to be for hermit crabs?
the iso needs to be big enough for the basics. that is, tall enough for enough cocofibre or sand for the crab to dig if he wants to; and a big enough footprint for two water dishes (one fresh and one aquarium-grade salt water) a food dish, a hidey, and possibly one or two extra shells.
An iso tank doesn't need to be real big for a hermit crab. A one gallon pet carrier with paper towels in the bottem is the easiest to use and to clean. Hopefully that helps some...
